Selected Artist: London 2026
Emily Hana
Emily Hana is a British Australian artist based in London, whose practice sits at the intersection of painting and sculpture. Working primarily with oil on assembled reclaimed wood, she creates fragmented, three dimensional compositions that explore human connection, identity and perception. Hana’s work examines the tension between intimacy and isolation, often drawing on experiences of loneliness, self exploration and the shifting relationship between our internal and external selves. Through sculptural surfaces and photorealistic figurative painting, she plays with perspective, constructing works that reveal different compositions and narratives as the viewer moves around them. This shifting viewpoint reflects a central concern within her practice, the idea that our understanding of ourselves and others is never singular or fixed.
Hana graduated from the College of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales with a degree in Art Education. Before establishing her independent practice, she worked as a senior printmaker, producing work for internationally recognised artists, before beginning her painting career in 2020. Hana’s recent solo exhibitions include Simulacrum at Red Eight Gallery and The Hugging Machine at Cicek Gallery, both in London in 2025. Her work has been exhibited internationally and selected for the Royal Society of British Artists’ Rising Stars exhibitions and the Dubel Prize.
