Jeannine Close

Jeannine Close is an abstract painter based on the southeast coast of England, working in acrylic and mixed media. Her practice is inspired by the feeling of being by the sea, the contrast between total calm and the wild force of nature, which makes everything else disappear for a moment. She uses colour, mark-making and deliberate dissonance to stage that push and pull. Originally from Germany, Jeannine earned her degree in fashion design there, and went on to work as an interior designer for a major architecture practice, designing luxury hotels and high-end residential interiors in London.
That background gave her a considered eye for proportion, colour and how a piece sits in a room, an instinct that still underpins her expressive, abstract work today. She has exhibited at several art fairs, including The Other Art Fair London and Manchester Art Fair. Her paintings have been permanently placed at WatchHouse Fitzrovia in London and form a permanent installation of 27 works across three floors at Gilbanks, Birmingham. Jeannine’s work is held in private collections across the UK and internationally.
