Selected Artist: London 2026

Jennifer Nieuwland

Based in London, Jennifer Nieuwland was initially self-taught before embarking on an MA in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School. Her paintings navigate the strangeness and vulnerability of living in a body. She is interested in how paint encodes and activates felt experience through the behaviour of texture, mark, sheen and colour. Nieuwland creates sensory landscapes that embody the tensions between beauty and pain, rupture and resilience, contraction and expansion. In these heightened spaces, physical and elemental forces converge, suggesting the entanglement of female experience with the broader ecologies of matter, memory, and sensation.
Nieuwland was selected as a finalist for the Ingram Prize (2025) and for the Xenia Creative Residency in 2024. She was longlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize, shortlisted for the ACS Prize and the Studio West Prize, and was a finalist in the Jackson's Painting Prize. Her work featured on the cover of SuboArtMagazine and Ache Magazine. She has exhibited widely with recent shows at Tiderip Gallery, Hypha HQ, LAF VIP lounge, Somers Gallery and Liminal Gallery. Her work is held in collections in the US, Switzerland and the UK.
