Lawrence Meju, artist at Fair Play Art Fair 2026

Selected Artist: London 2026

Lawrence Meju

Working between London and Lagos, Lawrence Meju is a visual artist and designer whose practice explores time, growth, memory and the relationships between people and the environments they inhabit. Trained as an architect, he approaches collage as both a material process and a way of constructing space, creating layered works that exist between figuration and abstraction. Working primarily with textured paper, paint and mixed media, Meju transforms fragments into atmospheric compositions that examine identity, emotion and human connection. His process-led practice emphasises materiality, abstraction and careful craftsmanship, while increasingly expanding into sculptural and spatial forms. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair (London), the Africa Centre (London) and the +234 Art Fair (2024–2026).
In 2024, he presented his debut solo exhibition, Fragments: A Symphony of Shapes, at Alliance Française de Lagos. He was runner-up for the Visible Artist Award at London's House of St Barnabas in 2023 and was shortlisted for the Myma Art Prize in 2025. His work has been featured in Omenka Magazine, Almanak Media, Colossal, Contemporary Collage Magazine and Subo Art Magazine. Meju is a Goethe-Institut and Sahara Centre Art/Space Fellow, and his work is held in private collections and the permanent collection of the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, Lagos.
