Lea Rose Kara

Lea Rose Kara is originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, and is now a London-based artist whose practice is rooted in biology, archaeology, and epistemology. Working with materials such as resin, bronze, wool, and charcoal, she explores the intersection of nature, science, and lost knowledge of the land. Known for creating handmade pigments from flowers, berries, and mushrooms to dye wool for her sculptures, Lea has also developed her distinctive “pressure stitching” sculpting technique. She earned her MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art (2022) and has held residencies at Porthleven in Cornwall (Prize Winner, 2019), Freud Museum London (2021), and Standpoint Gallery, London (2022).
Grants enabled her to work in Italy alongside artists specialising in glass, printmaking, and sculpture. In 2018, she was mentored by British sculptor Julian Wild through the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association. Lea's work has featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. She has lectured at The Courtauld Institute of Art, was a finalist for the 2025 Ingram Prize, and her artworks are held in private collections across Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, and China.
