Robert Montgomery
Robert Montgomery is a Scottish contemporary artist based in London. He makes lightworks and paintings, billboard poems, fire poems, public sculptures and drawings. His work overall brings the tradition of text art closer to the language of poetry. Encounters with the poetry of André Breton in art college Montgomery says, "made me want to try to be a painter and poet at the same time," and the principles of concrete poetry have been central to his work across various media. He was recently included in the Musée du Louvre exhibition “La Suite de l’Histoire” in Paris, the Louvre’s first exhibition of contemporary art.
He represented the UK at the 2012 Kochi Biennale and the 2016 Yinchuan Biennale. His work is in museum collections across the world including the Albright Knox Museum in Buffalo, New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He has had solo museum projects at the Aspen Art Museum in Colorado, Oklahoma Contemporary, the PODO Museum, the BAM in Mons, and the Cer Modern Museum in Ankara.
