Selected Artist: London 2026
Stacie McCormick
Stacie McCormick is an American-born, London-based artist whose practice spans painting, photography, poetry, video and sound. At its centre is a sustained inquiry into material, gesture and the indivisible rhythms that move through bodies, water and the natural world.
Working wet-on-wet with oil, ink and acrylic, McCormick uses self-made squeegees and brushes to add, move and remove paint. Her process is physical, intuitive and durational: a negotiation between intention and surrender in which the rational mind recedes and the work emerges through encounter. The resulting paintings hold calligraphic movement, density and erasure in continual tension. Rather than illustrating connection, they inhabit it—tracing what neither artist nor material could produce alone.

Born in Los Angeles, McCormick received an MFA from City & Guilds of London Art School. She exhibits internationally, and her work is held in private and institutional collections. Alongside her studio practice, she is the founder and director of Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop, established in London in 2015 as an artist-led platform for exhibitions, residencies and critical exchange. She is the former Chair of a-n The Artists Information Company and serves on the Executive Committee of IAA/AIAP, an international artists’ organisation in official partnership with UNESCO.
