Selected Artist: London 2026
Steve McPherson
Steve McPherson was born and raised near Margate on the North Kent coast of the UK. A collector of things and a beachcomber since childhood, these tendencies combined when in 2007 he decided his primary material for his creative output would be the discarded objects that wash onto his local shore. While it is impossible to ignore the environmental concerns present in his work, his practice draws analogies akin to the role of archaeologist, collector, and paradoxical treasure hunter. Steve is an internationally exhibited artist whose work is shown in museums, galleries and art fairs globally. His practice includes assemblage, sculptural objects, installation, book works, photography, and sound.
McPherson has undertaken artist residencies in the Shetland Isles, with The British Council in Egypt, and the National Museum of Marine Science & Technology, Taiwan. He has collaborated with a range of marine environmental groups including the Marine Conservation Society (UK), Surfers Against Sewage and the Plastic Ocean Foundation. McPherson’s work appears in BBC and Sky Arts television documentaries and many journals both in print and online. His work is held in corporate and private collections. He continues to work from his studio, a minute away from the beach.
