Beneath the Surface, 2026
Edition: 1 of 1
Medium: Mixed media on canvas
Size: 115x162cm
These larger works return to the oval form, enlarged to an almost life-size scale and recalling the shape and imprint of a thumbprint. Built through layers of oil pastel beneath acrylic paint, the surface is then “etched” to reveal what lies underneath, a process reflected in the titles What Lies Beneath and Beneath the Surface. Repeated polka-dot rhythms reference the artist’s background in textiles and introduce a visual language of pattern and repetition. Deliberately left unstretched, the works occupy an ambiguous space between painting and textile, reflecting an ongoing interest in the shifting boundary between art and design.
